Photoshop Tutorial To Create Cover Up Layers For Digital Props And Backgrounds

Step by Step Photoshop Tutorial

In thisĀ Photoshop tutorial I will walk you through all the steps for using and creating your own cover-up layers when using digital props. I wanted to create this for two reasons.

  • 1. I have had a lot of subscribers ask how I create cover up layers.
  • 2. Members of our Digital Creations Club have wanted a quick lesson.

The Basic Idea:

Here’s the basics of how I create these for my Digital Backgrounds and Props.

I always start by selecting the pen tool in Photoshop. I then start creating points around the area that I want to cut out for my cover layer. If you need help using the pen tool…watch this video here.

I then create a copy of the selection so it’s an exact copy of the prop I am using. Then I open and drag my subject that is already cut out in my digital background and prop. I make sure it’s under the cover layer. This is important so it actually does what it suppose to do.

That’s It!

So, now to look over my shoulder and see how I create these first hand…watch the video below.

After watching you can see that it’s not that hard and it makes it really convenient and easy for working with digital backgrounds and props.
