In this video I wanted to show you how to expand your photography using Digital Photo Studio Backgrounds. I receive a lot of emails from students that say they can’t afford a full studio with professional lights and expensive backdrops. Now with the help of technology and the new digital age that we live in…anyone can get in the game.

In the video below I’ll demonstrate how using these Digital Backgrounds and Props in Photoshop can be super simple.

The Digital Background we used in this video is available in our Digital Creations Club.

    Hi Scott,

Can you explain how to add a subdued shadow behind the person to make that layer blend in and look more realistic?

    Thanks,
    Mary

  6. Greg says:

Scott, thank you. That was terrific. The possibilities seem endless. Can you explain how to choose the best blend mode? I currently use PhotoShop Elements 7. Again, thanks.

    Greg

Thanks Scott for the video on how to swap out different backgrounds to offer many options for the client. We don\’t have to show the same background over and over……the options with mixing it up are endless. Thanks again for the great tip!!!

    Scott,
I am new to all this. So do you take pictures of your subjects behind a green screen in order to move them on to the digital background?

    Thanks,
    Cathie

  9. Robin says:

Love this it is so cool. I’m going to try it.

  10. Robin says:

    Hi Scott,

I am interested, but do you offer some free trial. I have purchased programs in the past and found them unsatisfactory. But if I could actually try out a background where I can run a hard print then I can see exactly how it will turn out? Do you offer anything such as this?

  11. Kendra says:

    Scott,
Love the new video. The training is what keeps me coming back!! I have most of your products now and I am lost as to how to organize them all so that I can use them as you are showing here. Mix them all up and run with it.
Could you please share a video that shows how you organize and store all your files so you can access them quickly and easily?
    Thanks again for everything.

For some reason I’m not getting this video to work and I’m so bummed! I want to see this video so badly b/c I have a CD of digital backgrounds just sitting here…collecting dust b/c I can’t do it right lol. Maybe I’ll get it to work a little later tonight!

Great Video Scott. I love getting \\"Check out the new video I posted on the blog\\" emails. They are very helpful, and as Fancy stated above…I never thought about how versatile all of the digi\\\’s are because of the fact that we can mix and match them all. Think outside of the box a bit. Thanks again, and can\\\’t wait for the next one.

  15. Melvin Dickiey says:

Does this work with Photoshop Elements or just Photoshop? I only have Elements.

Once again, you\’ve added such flexibility to these digital backgrounds. Anyone would be hard pressed to find something as versitile and useful. Well done Scott!

  18. Interesting ideas, once I begin to move more into portrait work I might experiment with digital backdrops. Thanks!

  19. Shelly says:

Out of all the online help files, yours have been the best! It is because of you videos that I have fu=innally centered on what I want to do with my photography. one that would be really nice is a beach scene with a sand castle. Thank you for more video tips.

    Shelly

  20. Excellent video, Scott.
I’d like to see some information on shooting our human subjects, especially regarding lighting and backgrounds (eg. green screen, or not?) Obviously, lighting direction and source will make a big difference to the ‘reality’ of the composite using your backgrounds, so some recommendations would be helpful.
    Keep up the good work!
    Cheers

  21. Another great video. Loved it!! Thanks

  22. Sue says:

Scott, this looks great. I have a question – How do you get all of the different backgrounds (people, tire, etc) up at the same time? When I cut out someone and get ready to put them in another background and I call the background up that’s the only picture that is on the screen. What important information or skill am I lacking?
I have learned so much from your videos. thanks so much

  23. Deon says:

Thanks for the great video and tips Scott! Especially for pointing out that we can bring in other elements into your already great background props!!!

    Deon.

  24. Andrew says:

great video, I love digital backgrounds…

  25. More great stuff. I tried this technique last night as like all of your other ideas, it is terrific. Thank you Scott.

  26. Thanks Scott, you’re doing invaluable work and increasing my knowledge vastly!

  27. Reatha says:

great video. I went out to take some great photos and got some interesting backgrounds. Now I want to do cover ups and props and then intermix with some of your products and see what happens. You give great tutorials which helped me get out of my comfort zone and experiment a little with these digital backgrounds. Thanks

  28. I’m not sure how I feel about digital backgrounds. Most of the time you can tell the backgrounds are fake and it’s oh so easy to end up with a cheesy photo.

I know the important person is the customer and whether or not they like the photos, but…

How do people feel about this, and how do prevent the cheesiness?

  29. Susie says:

Hi Scott, I always buy your backgrounds and watch your video’s They are so informative. I don’t think anyone out there has anything better than you. I am a member of your club and love getting the discounts and free stuff. I have used your methods and they are great, really work for me. Thanks for caring enough to put this out there! I get a lot of sales just off the backgrounds that I use from you! Thanks again.

  30. Joy says:

    Hi Scott,

Great video. I have a question. I purchased gentle stream and have not been able to drag my subject into it. It shows it moved over, but the image does not appear in the gentle stream backdrop. I have tried it several times . Do you think I got a bad download?

  31. Sue says:

Scott, I always enjoy your videos, however, I must be missing something. How do you get all of the different layers (different subjects and backgrounds) into the layers palette? I am using Elements 6 and I finally saw and read about turning the window into cascade instead of maximum.

  32. thanks for the post..A similar trend is now happening with digital backdrops. More and more photographers are shooting on a chroma key backdrop and using digital background replacement. At first there was some resistance by photographers to move in this direction. However, over the last few years, chroma key has really been gaining ground.
