Hi Guys, I have to say your information is simple and to the point. Its a great step by step on how to get started and how to make some magic. I am enjoying the info provided very much. And we are anticipating creating our own studio.

I have a specific question for everyone. We are considering starting a studio in our home. My main question is, if we set it up in our garage, we have no external door except the 2 car garage door. What have people done in the past as an entryway for customers? Do you open the garage door? Do they come through your home? (this is something I prefer NOT to do because of pets and little kids and keeping the house spotless.) This is my MAJOR concern and question and I would love some feedback please!!

I have a question about studio space. I know in your video you suggest a space 20 feet by 11 feet. I don’t have that big of space to work with in my home. I have a room that is 11 feet by 12 feet. Could I make this room work?

Hi Bridget,

I wouldn’t let the size you have to work with stop you. I’m a big believer in making what you have work.

Sure it will be a little cramped, but you can set up a small studio in a 10×12 space.

I would still purchase the larger backdrops that are 10×15. This will allow you to use them if you ever do expand.

I say go for it. Once you get set up, I would love to see what you co me up with.

Any suggestions as where to set up an in home studio? Are most people using an assigned room in their home or transforming a room for the day of the shoot? Any tips as to what people do when first starting out would be appreciated.

I have my first paid photo shoot coming up and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on where they take their digital files for printing.

I am shooting portraits for a basketball league in my town and I estimate I will need around 600-1000 prints ranging from wallets to 8 x 10.

I’ve checked out several online print companies, however I am interested if anyone else had any input.

I love smugmug.com, and if you pay the highest tier for their services: $149.95-ish a year you can price the prints at whatever cost you want and they ship them directly to your clients. All you do is upload the photos, and send your clients the link. then allow printing.

I would like to respond to the previous comment about lab printing services…I personally use photoreflect. They provide a free service, you get a storefront, you can personalize it and set your own pricing then just choose a lab from their list of labtricity labs! It great…

When I came across Scott and Lisa's first video and signed up, I was anxious to get going. I had my first portrait shoot on site with new gear and wanted it to all go well. I was shooting the homeschool group's school pictures (did I tell ya my wife home schools) and was doing the sitting for free to get my info out there. I've already have felt what Scott talked about with receiving requests for my work. I was lucky enough this past weekend to pick up a brand new in the wrapper copy of Adobe Photshop CS3- Extended for $80, I was stoked. But wow, I was overwelmed again looking at Photoshop and all the tools, etc. I can't thank you all for the great beginner's tutorials for photoshop, it is just what the dr. ordered (actually my first shot tomorrow is for a dr.'s family) I love that it is geared toward the photographer. PS is so powerful and you can do so much design work with it that it can become overwelming quickly. Not sure if you have planned any video's on colorizing B&W photos' something real simple in layers (watched a ton of video's on Youtube, before I got your latest email with these) or changing eye color etc to make a B&W pop. I think there is a certain market there for the colorization b&w's

Hi! I found this site while looking online and thought I'd check it out. I am currently enrolled in a photography course through New York institute of photography. I have to say I love this site. It is so nice to listen to your pod casts. I have learned stuff from this site also. So you are doing a great Job. I love the picture of the feet. I was one of those people who thought I needed to wait to start my business till I learned absolutely everything. Now I know I don't have too. I have had two people tell me they want me to photograph thier child. I was reluctant to say yes till I have finished the course. Now I know I will be calling them up to tell them anytime they want! Thanks Lori
